To Basil Bunting and Don Share
~
The sea has no renewal, no
forgetting,
no variety of death,
is silent with the sentence of a single
note.
How can I sing with my love in my
bosom?
Unclean, immature and
unseasonable salmon.
(Basil Bunting - Villon - 1925, last lines)

Riding Saint-Mawr
Pour fuir les potences de la mort
Taking with him the body fluids of the Testaments
Leaving behind the chesty minds of the Consolaments,
Saying So long to Stephen Dedalus
Attached to his bordello Dower House.

Who never chewed any fat
Standing still at the naked munch,
Where the King's men roasted the muted ones in debt
At the fools' garrulous lunch
Grabbing their spat.
Scattering the ashes
Who, between his unnumbered Sixth and Seventh Seas, gnashes
That never made the snowbound countries to the white whet
Themselves better to such a hunch.
